The Dresses

(Photo from The New York Times.)

We stayed up last night to catch the historic inauguration of the 44th President of the United States of America.

The inauguration brings hope in the diversity of the First Family. It brings hope that America will become less insular.

Of course the real reason I stayed up was to see Michelle Obama's inaugural dress by Isabel Toledo. The First Lady has a real-world style. She had worn off-the-rack dresses (J.Crew and Gap!) for so many appearances. Standing beside her husband as he delivered his inaugural speech, she wore green J.Crew gloves and green Jimmy Choo pumps! Brave combination with the yellow (lemongrass) sparkly sheath!

Her girls were absolutely adorable in their periwinkle-blue and pink J.Crew coats.

Then, there was the full-skirted Jason Wu one-shoulder white ball gown to the inaugural balls. For once, she must rightfully claim her seat amongst fashion icons to be be draped in the glamor of inauguration balls.

I'm definitely more interested in checking out the the fashion for these balls than the Golden Globes.
