The Malaysian Civil Service doesn't exactly have dress-down Fridays.
But they have Batik Thursdays!
Early this year, the government announced that Batik shirts are to be worn on Thursdays instead of the very complicated usual 1st and 15th working day of each month.
On Thursdays, a sea of colors wash over government institutions and buildings as civil servants parade a myriad of batik designs.
It's not just the cheerful colors that I love. There's something decidedly light-hearted about being in batik. It puts the wearer in a really good mood.
Not totally applicable in Singapore. Theme parties could be silly sometimes. But perhaps we could have a "National Costumes Day" within the agency just for fun. Perhaps during our anniversary or something. Otherwise, we only see these national costumes come out to play during dinner galas.

I would love that! I think they do that in Schools on Racial Harmony Day.
