Something's Off

(The above images are from tremaine and Google flickr)

These images are commonly displayed all over the world.

Many government and commercial buildings in Singapore do not allow photography or video recording of any sort in any form.

It's fairly routine to grab an image of a camcorder and stick the universal NO sign over it and plaster it all over one's premises.

The thing is, I can't seem to link any brand associations to the camcorders used in these images. No fancy brand names, nothing.

Whatever. All good. The public relations industry has this biggie about using generic forms on signs. There should be no obvious brand names stuck on something unless explicit permission has been given.

Or there's sponsorship of some kind. You know, like those scenes from Sex and The City- The Movie.

There was this day that I walked by the plasma screen in our building and did a double take.

Since then, the full-sized sign had been looping for months. I had to lift this image below from the screen and crop this portion out.

Now, click and take a closer look.

Our building of course, doesn't allow random video recording either.

But the sign seems to have gone a step further. It also appears to state clearly that you're especially not supposed to use this particular brand of camcorder.

-_-

Ummm, product placement, not?

Even though the argument may be put forth that the sign is for non-commercial usage, still the brand owner might have a wee issue with trademark dilution, yes?
