Last Friday, a Lunch-Time chat was held.
O'Brien's sandwiches are a great choice for our brown bag lunches. (Keep 'em coming yo!)
The speaker was our Deputy CEO.
I was wondering what the content would be. I confess I'm not the most ra-ra person about the organization. Much alike high school and uni, I've this huge inclination to skip officially sanctioned events. Well, I turned up at this because of pure curiosity.
A fairly good number of about 40 people attended. The refreshing thing was, the topics weren't all about work per se. It was peppered with personal anecdotes and life experiences. That was the interesting part of it.
The Deputy CEO spoke on his learning points gleaned from 7 main chapters of his life: Chess, LSG, Bhutan, Business School, My Principal, My Wife, My Sons.
I came away from the session understanding a little more about him. More importantly, everyone had a little insight into the values he believed in and the possible vision he would draw up for this organization. Then, I compared it to my own experiences. At the end, it kinda "officially" satisfied all those kaypoh questions we might have about the man.
Those are my takeaways from the session. What are yours?
For this sort of Lunch Time chats to flourish, it needs a certain kind of open-mindedness (on the part of the speaker) for this sort of personal sharing to happen. It takes a certain kind of finesse to ensure that the session remains lighthearted and not become a pep talk. We already have separate sessions to cue us in on where we stand in fulfilling our Balanced Scorecard.
Now, my question is, will the other speakers be as forthcoming?
